Health Violations Found at Abortuary

The area's lone abortion clinic was shut down late last week by state officials after inspectors discovered several violations within the facility, including infection control, according to a state health department spokesman. State inspectors returned to the Pacific Avenue clinic, Alternatives, Monday to do a full survey of the facility after uncovering the violations Friday while responding to a complaint.

Dallaire Pleads for Action on Darfur

Retired Canadian general Romeo Dallaire blasted the U.S. and Canada on Monday for failing to rally the world and provide the political will to save people in Darfur. The reason so many people have been allowed to die in Sudan already, Dallaire told a Senate subcommittee, is simple. "There's no self-interest. Who cares about Darfurians? They're sub-Saharan Africans. They're like Rwandans."
