Italian Lawmakers Pave Way for Gay Unions

Italy's lower house of parliament last night voted in favor of a government-proposed motion to pass a law recognizing civil unions, including those of same-sex couples. The nine-party ruling coalition won the vote in the Chamber of Deputies in favor of civil-union legislation by 301 votes to 266.
