With the impending retirement of Ontario Chief Justice Roy McMurtry, the legal grapevine is buzzing with speculation about what political machinations may be driving the federal government's search for his replacement. The most often-mentioned contenders range from two associate chief justices - Dennis O'Connor and Douglas Cunningham - to Madam Justice Rosalie Abella of the Supreme Court of Canada, whose home, and, perhaps, her heart, are in Toronto.
