China Arrests Catholic Priests


Nine priests of China’s underground Roman Catholic Church have been arrested in the northern province of Hebei, the Catholic news agency AsiaNews reported ... It was not known why they had been held but the agency said that it was probably because they had met over Christmas for prayer in a place that had not been recognised by the government.

Dallaire Pleads for Action on Darfur

Retired Canadian general Romeo Dallaire blasted the U.S. and Canada on Monday for failing to rally the world and provide the political will to save people in Darfur. The reason so many people have been allowed to die in Sudan already, Dallaire told a Senate subcommittee, is simple. "There's no self-interest. Who cares about Darfurians? They're sub-Saharan Africans. They're like Rwandans."
