U.S. Catholic Bishops Stand Firm on Birth Control

Somewhat lost in reports from the meeting was the approval of a new document from the U.S. church's anti-abortion committee aimed at young Catholics who are engaged or recently married. Called "Married Love and the Gift of Life," the document reaffirms the church's stance that artificial contraception is immoral, even between husband and wife. The document passed with 95 percent of bishops voting in its favor and no debate on the floor.
